 RPG Rules and Regulations
« Thread Started on Jul 28, 2007, 8:09pm »

Here are a few rules to ensure that the Role-playing on this site runs smoothly...

1. No God Modding. Do not disrupt the flow of the thread by declaring you have superhuman strengths, attributes, or items. No character is invincible.

2. No killing off or attacking other member’s characters without their consent. You do not control their actions.

3. Unless Role-playing with mature and experienced writers, restrict your characters to six per thread to prevent confusion.

4. Do not manipulate or talk for another’s character without their given permission. They are not your puppets.

5. No machine gun posting or post very *friendly* personting. This means posting one to three word posts, or a post only containing one short sentence. There is nothing more frustrating for fellow Role-players than trying to respond to a limited sentence.

6. No Hijacking. Hijacking a RP is when you and/or others take over the story, ignore the author's plot and rules, and ignore the other players. This is a serious offence and it will not be tolerated.

7. Each Character in the RP Character forum must be directly linked to the rp that the character is currently in. Make sure it is a clickable link and not a dead link. This is the process to link your Character to another page within your posts: [*URL= *put URL here*] Name of page [*/URL].

8. Pictures may be posted as long as they are not explicit or offensive.

9. RPG Threads can be:

Free: Allows all members to join without having to get the author's permission. The story is written by everyone involved. A set plot can be agreed on and followed, but all writers are able to contribute their own ideas to the story without permission. For major plot changes, always consult the author first.

Semi-Scripted: Either free to join or you will need the author's permission to join. A plot is tentatively written but the author allows changes and input from other members. Major plot ideas must be approved by the author but you are allowed to freely contribute minor story ideas without the author's permission.

Totally-Scripted: All members must ask the author's permission to join. The plot is known and discussed prior to game play. The story is written by the author. All ideas must be approved by the author before they can be added to the RP. The author has total control over every part of the story, even the storylines of your character(s) and plot ideas you come up with. These types of RPGs are not for everyone, so be sure you understand what you are getting into before you join a totally scripted RPG.

10. Steps you need to take prior to joining an RPG:

a. Before posting, always clear it with the author first. This applies to totally-scripted, semi-scripted and non-scripted.

b. Always check the OOC before posting. Leave any questions you may have there. Discuss plot ideas and characters there.

c. If you want to use Tolkien's characters or C.S. Lewis's characters, please consult the author of the RP first. It does not matter whether the RP is canon or non-canon, if you want to use Tolkien or Lewis characters or be affiliated with them in any way, always ask the author first.

d. Create your character sheet before posting in the RP. It's also advisable to leave a link to your character at the end of your first post.

e. If the author asks you to change something, do it and do not argue. The author has the right to ask you to leave their RP if you are not following the story or have violated any of the site or RP rules.

f. Keep to the thread, and the topic. Don't have cell phones or modern appliances in a historical drama set in the 1800's.

11. RPG Abandonment Rule: If an author abandons his/her RPG for five pages or 30 days, whichever comes first, authorship of the thread reverts to the active players.

12. Orphaned Character Rule: If a player abandons his/her characters for five pages or 30 days, whichever comes first, the author of the thread may decide what to do with those characters, either giving them to others to play or writing them out of the story.

13. When you Co-Post with someone, please separate the co-post into smaller sections. An overly huge post can be quite discouraging to someone who is trying to follow along the RPG...or has missed out on a few days of posting.

14. Try not to create Mary-Sue or Gary-Sue characters. This is not essential, but helps to refresh the originality of RPGs and prevents them from becoming stale. Mary/Gary-Sue characters are usually perfect people with troubled pasts, and often fit the ideal of who the writer aspires to be.

15. Check your spelling and grammar before posting *every* post. We have a spell-checker for a reason.

If any member breaks one or more of these rules the consequences are as follows:

First offense: Your RP will be locked for three days.

Second offense: Your RP will be locked for one week.

Third offense: Your RP will be locked down indefinitely.

Fourth offense: Account suspension for a week.

Fifth offense: Account suspension indefinitely.
